PRO CYCLING MANAGER 2013 GUIDE

Career - Manage your team
The manager screen
The manager screen provides all the tools to manage your team and staff effectively, receive the latest news about the season and to follow the race calendar.
1) Navigation of the pages visited.

2) The main management screen menus take you to the sub-menus where you can access all the sections you can use to manage your team.

3) Shortcut icons to quickly access the most important pages: Calendar, Squad, Finance, Messages (with number of unread messages), Search and List.

4) Financial situation and sponsor confidence.

5) The "HOME", "TOOLS", "HELP" and "QUIT" buttons buttons allow you to return to the game menu ("Home"), access the Options settings ("Tools"), open the online guide ("Help") or return to Windows ("Exit").
Note: your game is automatically saved when you exit to Windows or to the main menu.

6) Name and logo of your team.

7) Calendar bar is used to skip to the next day once you have completed all the actions for the current day. You can also go direct to the next event by clicking on a future date (the next day or several days later).
Calendar bar
Each season in your career must be managed with particular attention to the calendar to plan your team management choices, schedule training sessions and prepare your riders… to make sure you are ready for the season’s important events.
The bar comprises several elements:

7a) The current date in the game.

7b) Calendar dates for 14 days. Move your cursor over any date to view the names of all the races taking place on that day.

7c) The race bars are displayed under the dates (where appropriate) where you can view the race calendar for your team and, if there is no box, it means your team has no race on that day. Each type of race is shown in a specific colour:

Orange = World/National championship

Blue = "Cya World Tour" races

Green = "Continental" races

Pink = Supergiro di Italia (Italy)

Yellow = Tour de France

Red = Vuelta a España (Spain)

Icons on the bar indicate whether the race is a time trial, mountain or dale event. When you click on one of the race bars, the race information (name, race profile, etc.) will be displayed on the screen. When you click directly on a date you can advance your game to that date (Pro Cycling Manager calculates all the events regarding your team and the cycling world generally). Before the game launches the simulation process it will ask if you want a "Normal simulation" or "Total simulation".

If you confirm a skip to another date, the game will advance day by day calculating your various career parameters. Numerous messages will notify you when new messages have arrived on your "Messages" page. An event will require your intervention from time to time, and the simulation will stop until you have dealt with it (you will go to the "Messages" page to find out what these are).

If you decide to skip a week during which your team was competing in various races, the game will automatically simulate the results of these events. However, if the race requires you to form a team (for a first stage of a tour or a classic) the simulation will stop to allow you to select your riders to participate in that particular race.

7d) The small arrows to the right of the calendar are for navigating in the calendar. Use the "back’ arrow to return the calendar to the current date.

The large arrow moves the calendar forward one day in the season.

Every day a small window will open to notify you of the different races that are taking place. You will also be notified by email of the results of the races in which you are not competing. You can also choose to "skip’ to a specific day in the calendar by simply clicking the date (i.e. the number) on the calendar. If you skip several days or weeks on the calendar, you can choose between Normal and Total simulation. In both simulation modes, the calendar advance will stop if certain messages require your attention, but in Total simulation mode, the races will also be simulated automatically.
Sponsors
When you choose your team, you are responsible for achieving the results that match up to the budget allocated by the team sponsor(s). However, you can manage the objectives set by your sponsors and renegotiate your conditions of financing.

Click the "Manager" menu then "Sponsors" on the top left of the management screen to display the sponsors menu. The objectives required by the sponsor(s) are displayed on the right of the screen and you must meet these to maintain the sponsor’s confidence in your team.

Your sponsor’s confidence not only relies on your team completing the objectives set but also the quality of your squad in relation to the territories your sponsor is interested in and the popular riders you enter for events that are particularly important to the sponsor.

You can now negotiate the objectives required by your sponsors by seeking more challenges (tougher objectives that may obtain a higher budget) or more modest objectives (easier objectives with a lower budget).

You can negotiate until 10th January on the "Sponsors" screen in the tab for that sponsor. You can click the list in the "Negotiate" column to change the difficulty level of each race in the list.
1) The confidence of the sponsor not only depends on your results, but also on the riders you decide to recruit into your team and your schedule. Here you can see the influence of each of these factors.

2) The results objectives set by your sponsor are listed here.

3) You can also negotiate the objectives required, but this will always impact on the budget you are allocated.

Race calendar and registration
Once you have defined the priorities regarding the sponsors, go to the Team>Schedule menu to display the list of races and registrations. You can navigate period by period for an overview of all the races for which you are entered (or not). You can click the box opposite the race to request an invitation or cancel registrations, but please check the sponsor requirements carefully before changing the team calendar.

The various registration statuses are as follows:
Compulsory Registered Refused Wild Card requested Invitation requested Objective
Compulsory Registered Refused Wild Card requested Invitation requested Objective
Note: a deadline for changing race registrations for the period is shown at the bottom of the table.

Warning: if you have deregistered for a race, you will have to make a new registration request.
Cyclist schedules
One or your main prerogatives is to manage the schedule of your cyclists. You can also manage individual rider schedules in the Rider tab in the Team>Schedule menu. The interface is divided into 2 parts: an overview of the team schedule (top section) and individual schedules (bottom section) with the colours showing the fitness curve. To assign a race to a rider, just drag and drop a race from the team schedule into the individual schedule. If you assign a race to the wrong rider by mistake, just right-click on the race on their schedule to remove it.

When you pre-register riders, 3 possible scenarios may occur:
  • 1) If you have pre-registered fewer riders than the minimum (shown in red), the squad will automatically be increased on the day of the race.

  • 2) If you have pre-registered the minimum number of riders required (the number of pre-registered riders is shown in black), the squad will remain unchanged.

  • 3) If you have pre-registered too many riders (maximum exceeded, shown in red), riders will automatically be removed from the squad on the day of the race.
You can also create and filter the schedule by group of riders. To manage these groups, go to the "Group" tab and then click + or – on the bottom left of the screen to create or delete groups. You can then personalise the name of the group and assign an icon to identify it. Once you have created the group, simply drag and drop the group onto one of the riders to add him or right-click to remove him.

Note: a rider can be in 3 groups simultaneously.

Calendar, monitoring and training
You control the pace of the career (and the game) and can decide how quickly you want to advance through the days in the calendar depending on how you want to monitor your team and various other matters.

When you skip days (in the calendar bar) you should monitor your mailbox and your financial situation. It is also important to check your team’s development regularly via the detailed sheet in the Season section to ensure that your team is on top form for important events.
To prepare your team properly, increase the skill of your riders and ensure optimal fitness, you can view and organise training in the Team>Training menu. There are several different types of training available throughout the year with different features. It’s up to you to choose the best training regimes and conduct them at the right time depending on your calendar. In particular training allows you to prepare your team for big events (major tours).

Remember that you can click a date to carry out a Normal or Total simulation at any time and skip to the required date on the calendar.
Compete in a race
The first race of the season is looming; when you reach this date, click the large arrow in the calendar bar to launch the race preparation.

The first screen displays a summary of the race. Check carefully the race profile and the bonuses for the intermediate and mountain sprints (they could be objectives set by a sponsor) and remember to view the list of winners for previous years.

The next screen allows you register your team riders in the race and the conditions for entry are displayed at the bottom of the table.

FMake your selection according to the race profile and your riders’ aptitudes, fitness and specialisations, and always bear in mind the objectives you must achieve.

The final screen, just before the race starts, enables you to choose or buy equipment for your riders, e.g. wheels, frames and helmets, depending on the type of race.
